What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy is a disorder that can affect the sensory/motor or autonomic system. It can be caused by diabetes mellitus, alcoholism chemotherapy or exposure to chemicals or toxins. It can present as inability to feel temperature (hot/cold) or touch, numbness/tingling in the hands or feet.


Autonomic nerves disfunction can result in:
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Digestion difficulties
  • Abdominal blood pressure and heart rate
    What treatments are available for neuropathy?
    • Treating the underlying disease responsible for the neuropathy
    • Treating the symptoms with medications such as gabapentin/lyrica/SNRIs and tricyclic antidepressant
    • Physical therapy to improve balance/coordination and strength and function.
