What is spinal stenosis?Spinal stenosis is a degenerative condition of the spine resulting in narrowing of the spinal canal, pressure on the spinal nerves and presenting as pain, tingling or numbness of the rm, hand, leg or feet.
What causes spinal stenosis?
- Herniated disc
- Bone spurs from arthritis
- Thickened spinal ligaments
What are symptoms?
- Neck or back pain
- Numbness or tingling in hands, feet, legs, and arms
- Difficulty walking or loss of balance
How is it treated?
Treatment depends in the severity and location of the pain or other symptoms. With a goal of pain reduction and improved function. The plan may include:
- Short term pain medications
- Physical therapy
- Steroid injections
- Decompression procedures
- Spinal fusion surgery
